High impact information on Birc3

Biological context of Birc3

  • The inhibitor of apoptosis proteins, c-IAP1 and c-IAP2, are highly expressed in rat testis and potentially play a regulatory role in testicular apoptosis [4].
  • Level of phosphorylation of IkBalpha and IAP-1 expression were substantial in 8-day-old hypoxic hearts, suggesting the persistence of NF-kB driven hypertrophic signal along with a rescue attempt against hypoxic stress [5].

Anatomical context of Birc3

  • Both c-IAP1 and c-IAP2 showed cycles of transcriptional expression, throughout the seminiferous epithelial cycle. c-IAP1 protein showed a diffuse nuclear distribution in type B spermatogonia, preleptotene, leptotene, and zygotene spermatocytes [4].
  • The regulated expression of c-IAP1 and c-IAP2 during the rat seminiferous epithelial cycle plays a role in the protection of germ cells from Fas-mediated apoptosis [4].
  • In young cerebral cortex, we hypothesize that the hypoxic damage may be reversible, based on our demonstration of elevated HIF-1alpha levels, combined with a low level of IkBalpha phosphorylation, a decrease in IAP-1 and a lack of major change in Bcl2 family proteins [6].
