Disease relevance of Opisthorchiasis

  • Their concentration, in the sera, was low in control subjects and exceptionally high in clonorchiasis and opisthorchiasis (up to 13 and 22 times the maximum concentration of the control subjects, respectively) [1].
  • The geometric mean reciprocal titer in sera of opisthorchiasis patients was significantly higher than patients with other diseases, patients with schistosomiasis and healthy individuals (p less than 0.00001) [2].
  • Levels of antibody in sera of 78 patients with opisthorchiasis, 30 patients with other liver diseases, 10 patients with schistosomiasis and 30 healthy individuals were compared using three serodiagnostic tests, namely indirect haemagglutination (IHA), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and lectin immuno test (LIT) [2].
  • Using EITB, The 29 kDa component cross-reacted with most of the heterologous sera while the 31 kDa component was recognized by 69.2% (18/26) sera from angiostrongyliasis patients, cross-reacted only with trichinellosis, trichuriasis and opisthorchiasis sera [3].

High impact information on Opisthorchiasis

  • The results suggest that whereas alteration of DHPN metabolism by DHEA and BHA treatment effected changes at the initiation level, opisthorchiasis principally exerted an enhancing influence subsequent to carcinogen withdrawal [4].
  • Induction of cytochrome P450 2A6 expression in humans by the carcinogenic parasite infection, opisthorchiasis viverrini [5].
  • The findings thus indicate that enhancement of DHPN-initiated bile duct carcinogenesis by opisthorchiasis is both rapid and to a large degree irreversible [6].
  • The reaction in immunoblots of sera from patients with opisthorchiasis demonstrated antibodies against heterogeneous protein components of metacercariae and adult O. viverrini parasites [7].
  • Among opisthorchiasis patients, 3.6% had elevated CA125 and none had elevated CA19-9 [8].
