Disease relevance of Taeniasis

High impact information on Taeniasis

  • T. solium and Taenia saginata eggs cannot be differentiated on the basis of morphology; thus, in order to improve existing methods for the diagnosis of taeniasis, we have developed highly sensitive, species-specific DNA probes which differentiate T. solium and T. saginata [5].
  • Significant factors associated with NCC were: 1) being born outside Lima, 2) having raised pigs, 3) more than 20 years of age, 4) a history of seizures, and 5) a history of taeniasis [6].
  • In order to evaluate the efficacy of albendazole for the treatment of taeniasis, regimens of 400 mg x 1 day, 800 mg x 2 days, 800 mg x 3 days, 1200 mg x 2 days, and 1200 mg x 3 days were compared [7].
  • A study was made of the effect on taeniasis of mebendazole, a drug known to be highly active against a variety of nematode species parasitic in humans [8].
  • Serum immunoblots for both T. solium Cysticercosis and T. solium Taeniasis were performed [9].

Biological context of Taeniasis

Gene context of Taeniasis

  • The sensitivities of both tests, to detect epilepsy or taeniasis, were low, but the specificity and the positive predictive value of the antigen-capture assay was high when used with the epileptics [17].
  • Taenia saginata: polymerase chain reaction for taeniasis diagnosis in human fecal samples [18].
