Disease relevance of Hospital Units

  • A 5-year retrospective survey of Aeromonas hydrophila nosocomial infections at a hospital in Marseille, France, revealed infections in 5 (4.1%) of an estimated 122 patients treated with leeches in the Hand Surgery Unit and 2 (2.4%) of an estimated 85 patients treated with leeches in other hospital units [1].

High impact information on Hospital Units

  • None of 334 non-burn unit hospital personnel were found to be carriers of MARS [2].
  • An imipenem-resistant isolate (988FFP strain) recovered in 1995 from a smaller hospital unit, was also included, as well as an OXA-40-producing A. baumannii Spanish strain (SM28) [3].
  • The results show that there has been a significant increase in the practice of dialyzer reuse in the United States. Large regional differences exist, and reuse is greatest in freestanding for-profit (FSFP) units (87%) and freestanding nonprofit (FSNP) units (77%) and least in hospital units (49%) [4].
  • Serial measurements of the mother and fetus were made at baseline while the mother was smoking, while abstaining from smoking, and while using nicotine patch therapy for 4 days in a special care hospital unit [5].
  • Cost-efficiency targets, used to encourage downward pressure on hospital unit costs, have been employed within the UK NHS for many years [6].

Associations of Hospital Units with chemical compounds

  • The primary objective of the MYSTIC study is to monitor the performance of meropenem over a period of at least 3 years during which this carbapenem is prescribed in different hospital units thus allowing profiles to be established within individual hospitals [7].
  • In high-risk hospital units and in institutions caring for the elderly, oseltamivir prophylaxis, in combination with vaccination, can be recommended as measures to control an influenza outbreak [8].
  • The model was sensitive to changes in the price of enalapril, to estimates of the population with HF, the percentage of the population with HF treated with enalapril, and to hospital unit costs for nonfatal cases of HF [9].
  • Reflectance meter readings correlated well with laboratory blood glucose on all hospital units (R = .977 to .944) and were clinically useful [10].
  • Patients detoxified using a Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol-revised (CIWA-Ar) based PRN protocol on the addiction unit received significantly fewer chlordiazepoxide milligram equivalents over shorter duration than patients managed by other detoxification methods on other hospital units [11].

Gene context of Hospital Units

  • The cohort consisted of patients undergoing hemodialysis in a hospital unit over a 5-month period, with one to four measurements of cTnT [12].
  • When the Health Care Financing Administration implemented the Medicare prospective payment system (PPS), several types of hospitals and hospital units were excluded from the new reimbursement system, and they remained under the reasonable cost reimbursement system, subject to the target rate of increase limits [13].
  • We report a consecutive series of children with profound sensorineural HI investigated at a tertiary hospital unit [14].
  • Sixteen isolates were analysed by PFGE; nine were multiresistant serotype O11 isolates recovered in four hospital units, while seven were susceptible serotype O6 or O11 isolates from a single unit [15].
  • Based on recent BSN student clinical observations and evaluations from inpatient hospital units to which they were assigned, we were concerned about the absence of nursing leadership in these settings and the impact this absence has on our profession [16].
