Mesons

Disease relevance of Mesons

  • Female C3H mice aged 8-10 weeks with transplanted KHT sarcoma or SCCVII tumor were used to investigate the antitumor effect of SPG (Sonifilan, Schizophyllan) alone and in combination with local irradiation of pions with 4 fractions of 400 cGy (total 1600 cGy) [1].

High impact information on Mesons

  • Data from a dedicated cosmic ray run of the ALEPH detector were used in a study of muon trident production, i.e., muon pairs produced by muons [2].
  • We study the inclusive hadroproduction of D0, D+, D*+, and D(s)+ mesons at next-to-leading order in the parton model of quantum chromodynamics endowed with universal nonperturbative fragmentation functions fitted to e+e- annihilation data from CERN LEP1 [3].
  • We use data collected by the CLEO III detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring to measure the inclusive yields of D(s) mesons as B(Y(5S) --> D(s)X) = (44-7 +/- 4.2 +/- 9.9)% and B(Y(4S) --> D(s)X) = (18.1 +/- 0.5 +/- 2.8)% [4].
  • Using 0.8 x 10(6) D+ D- pairs collected with the CLEO-c detector at the psi(3770) resonance, we have searched for flavor-changing neutral current and lepton-number-violating decays of D+ mesons to final states with dielectrons [5].
  • The photoproduction of omega mesons on nuclei has been investigated using the Crystal Barrel/TAPS experiment at the ELSA tagged photon facility in Bonn [6].

Biological context of Mesons

Anatomical context of Mesons

  • HeLa cells were irradiated at liquid nitrogen temperature with negative pions from Nimrod at the Rutherford Laboratory and then assayed for survival of colony-forming ability [9].

Associations of Mesons with chemical compounds

  • Longitudinal electroproduction of charged pions from (1)H, (2)H, and (3)He [10].
  • With use of a recently developed particle-hole theory for pion production from coherent isobar formation and decay, calculations of total cross sections and kinetic-energy distributions for neutral subthreshold pions produced in carbon-carbon collisions at incident energies below 100 MeV/nucleon are made and compared with recent experimental data [11].
  • The authors suggest that these RBE values constitute an upper limit for normal mammalian cells exposed to pions and tha the RBE with clinically useful dose rates may be significantly lower than those reported here [12].
  • Procedures and techniques developed for the negative pi-meson (pion) radiotherapy program at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility, Los Alamos, NM, are reviewed and described [13].
  • Combination therapy of pions and SPG (Sonifilan, Schizophyllan), a biological response modifier for mouse tumor systems [1].

Gene context of Mesons

  • Limits on the decay-rate difference of neutral B mesons and on CP, T, and CPT violation in B(0-0)B oscillations [14].
  • Muon spin relaxation and susceptibility studies of the pure and diluted spin 1/2 kagomé-like lattice system (CuxZn(1-x))3V2O7(OH2) 2H2O [15].
  • Using the difference in lifetimes of D0 and macro D0 mesons, we obtain the CP-violation parameter Delta Y=[-0.8+/-0.6(stat.)+/-0.2(syst.)]% [16].
  • Using 55.8 pb(-1) of e+e- collisions recorded at the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at CESR, we determine absolute hadronic branching fractions of charged and neutral D mesons using a double tag technique [17].
  • Negative pi-meson (pion) therapy employing dynamic scanning with a focused spot of convergent beams has been in use since 1981 at SIN [18].
