Disease relevance of enanthic acid

  • Based on mass spectrometry (MS), tandem mass spectrometry, and/or NMR spectral characteristics, P1 was an alpha,beta-unsaturated metabolite, formed by dehydration of the D,D-dihydroxy heptanoic acid side chain, whereas P2 was probably the L,D-dihydroxy acid isomer of SVA, formed by stereospecific hydration of P1 [1].
  • During enrichments to search for soil bacteria that form the volatile ketones, acetone and butanone, we isolated pure cultures of Pseudomonas aureofaciens, P. fluorescens, and P. putida that excrete the beta-keto-acid, 3-oxopentanoate (3-OPA), when grown on heptanoic acid as carbon source [2].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of enanthic acid

  • Ion-pair normal-phase liquid chromatography, again with heptanoic acid as counter-ion, gave the necessary separation of the surfactant homologues [9].
  • After oral administration of amineptine (7-[(10-11)-dihydro-5H-dibenzo(a,d)cycloheptane-5yl] amino heptanoic acid), an original tricyclic antidepressant, seven metabolites were isolated from urine and plasma of rat, dog and man [10].
