Disease relevance of BMP8B

  • Both OP1 and OP2 amplitudes were significantly different (P < 0.05) from the baseline values during hypoxia [1].
  • CONCLUSIONS: BMP-7 and BMP-8 are highly expressed in osteosarcoma [2].
  • The Bmp8 gene is expressed in developing skeletal tissue and maps near the Achondroplasia locus on mouse chromosome 4 [3].
  • Isolate OP2 exhibited autolysis at 30 degrees C and above, while isolate OP7 underwent autolysis only at 35 degrees C and above [4].
  • In order to elucidate how the distance between OP1 and OP2 influences the repression of hsdA expression, we used E. coli cells transformed with plasmids carrying a set of deletions between OP1 and OP2 [5].

High impact information on BMP8B

  • The genomic locus of OP-2 has seven exons, like OP-1, and spans more than 27 kilobases (kb) [6].
  • In the C-terminal TGF-beta domain, OP-2 has a unique additional cysteine [6].
  • Osteogenic protein-2. A new member of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily expressed early in embryogenesis [6].
  • Tris buffer at pH 7.0 and 8.0 and at 35 degrees C significantly protected isolate OP2 from autolysis and failed to do so with isolate OP7 [4].
  • Expression of BMP-5 and BMP-8 was not seen [7].

Biological context of BMP8B

  • Immunostaining for BMP-8 and BMP-4 confirmed our findings with reverse-transcription PCR and Western blot analysis [8].
  • Also of interest is the fact that, in our patients, the amplitude of the dark-adapted OP2 was, on average, 240% larger than that measured in light-adaptation while, in normal, a non-significant 14% increase is noted; a finding which is in keeping with other studies reporting supernormal scotopic ERGs in some forms of cone dystrophies [9].
  • Our results show that following pre-exposure of the retina to progressively brighter photopic backgrounds there is a complete abolition of OP4 and approximately 50% of OP3, while OP2 is not affected in responses evoked to dim flashes of white light and recorded at the onset of dark-adaptation [10].

Anatomical context of BMP8B

  • In line with the messenger RNA expression pattern BMP-4 was detected in only the control fibroblasts and not in the Dupuytren's fibroblasts, whereas BMP-8 (chosen for comparison purposes) was detectable in both cell populations [8].
