Disease relevance of Cytology

High impact information on Cytology

  • PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fifty-nine adults with nonleukemic malignancies, performance status of 0 to 3, and positive CSF cytologies were assigned to receive intrathecal methotrexate (10 mg) or thiotepa (10 mg) twice weekly [5].
  • Sixty-one patients with histologically proven cancer and positive CSF cytologies were randomized to receive IT DepoCyt (31 patients) or IT methotrexate (30 patients) [6].
  • Methods of diagnosis were myelogram, computerized axial tomography, cerebro spinal fluid, chemistry and cytologies [7].
  • Of the 49 AFM patients studied, nine (18%) had immunostained cells in the bone marrow, and only 1/49 (2%) had positive cytologies [8].
  • All patients with positive CSF cytologies had activated MMP2 [9].

Anatomical context of Cytology

  • Nasal neutrophilic influx, the surface expression of the B2 integrin CD11b on the nasal polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs), rhinoscopic findings, respiratory symptoms, and nasal cytologies were evaluated in the 38 exposed children and in the 28 control children living in a nonpolluted Pacific coast port [10].

Associations of Cytology with chemical compounds

  • To obtain such data, the authors studied 23 cadmium workers with periodic analyses of blood/urine cadmium levels, hair cadmium content, urinary cytologies, creatinine clearance and urinary levels of lysozyme, beta-2-microglobulins, immunoglobulins, and aminoacids [11].
  • No significant difference was found between the stages of the nasal and temporal conjunctival impression cytologies in each eye, and there was no relationship between impression cytology stages and rose Bengal scores (p>0.05) [12].

Gene context of Cytology

  • Recent technical progress, including the use of GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein) directed antibody, may enhance the sensitivity of CSF cytologies [13].
  • Eighty-one individuals had urine cytologies, urinary carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) determinations and urinary immunoglobulin levels performed in an effort to evaluate various screening tests for the diagnosis of bladder cancer [14].
  • A retrospective review of 200 cytologies originally diagnosed as SCC was undertaken in an attempt to characterize the cytomorphologic features of WDNE [15].
