Disease relevance of EBF3

  • OE2 treatment of fish which had been ovariectomized 3 weeks previously had dose-dependent effects on the enzyme; the low dose (0.1 microgram/g body weight) was stimulatory and the higher doses (0.5, 1.0 and 5.0 micrograms/g body weight) were inhibitory [1].
  • The highest aggregation activity was observed between vaginal Lactobacillus acidophilus PV 32 or oesophageal OE 2/1 and E. coli with F4 (K88) [2].

High impact information on EBF3

  • In addition, EB1 and EBF3 induced microtubule bundling in some cells overexpressing these proteins [3].
  • Moreover, there was a very strong EBF3 signal at the centrosome in interphase cells and at the spindle poles in mitotic cells [3].
  • As do EB1 and RP1, EBF3 was found to colocalize with microtubules, preferentially at their plus ends, throughout the cell cycle [3].
  • The OE2 carboxyl of Glu 186 is below the plane of the penultimate glucose residue (Glc 2) of bound maltotetraose, 2.6 A from the oxygen atom of that ligand's penultimate alpha-1,4-glucosidic linkage [4].
  • The OE2 carboxyl of Glu 380 lies above the plane of Glc 2, 2.8 A from the O-1 atom of the more deeply bound beta-maltose [4].

Biological context of EBF3

  • A single injection of 2.5 microgram OE2 to normal 4-day cyclic rats at metoestrus failed to advance the next ovulation [5].
  • We have recently found that administration of oestradiol-17 beta (OE2) to rats stimulates trabecular bone formation [6].

Associations of EBF3 with chemical compounds

  • The ovariectomy-induced changes in plasma levels of gonadotrophin appear to be mediated, at least partly, by the feedback action of OE2 on 5-HT metabolism [1].
  • Edman degradation of a CNBr peptide from OE2 gave the sequence (M)KAAFAKGLKSGALVRPKGS-which has 85% identity to a sequence located towards the C-terminal end of the globular domain of the PL-II* protein of M. trossulus [7].
  • Thus, 4 h after the injection of SEB the increase in paw weight in OVX-mice treated with OE2 (10 micrograms/kg in corn oil) was 15.0 +/- 0.9 mg, while the exudation corresponded to 2.1 +/- 0.3 micrograms of Evans blue dye/g of tissue [8].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of EBF3

  • The plasma level of gonadotrophin showed a significant bimodal pattern of increase with the peak in week 4 after ovariectomy, indicating a strong negative feedback effect of OE2 [1].
  • The low dose of OE2 (0.1 micrograms/g body weight) restored the gonadotrophin and OE2 levels to those of the sham-ovariectomized vehicle-treated control group, whereas the high doses (0.5, 1.0 and 5.0 micrograms/g body weight) decreased the release of gonadotrophin in a dose-dependent manner [1].
  • The presence of aggregation-promoting factor (APF) was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with primers of a specific fragment the apf gene derived from human L. gasseri 4B2 in one oesophageal L. acidophilus strain OE 2/1 [2].
  • Western blotting shows that OE1 and OE2 are closely related to the histone H1-like protein PL-II* of Mytilus trossulus [7].
