Disease relevance of International System of Units

  • (The conversion factor for standard units to SI units is 1 gL = 3.2 mM.) CONCLUSIONS--Total serum sialic acid levels were significantly elevated in a relatively small group of NIDDM patients and were correlated with hypertension and retinopathy [1].
  • Using Cox regression, four significant variables were found to be associated with lower late survival rates: male gender, diabetes, chronic renal insufficiency (patients with creatinine levels greater than or equal to 1.7 mg/dl or 150 SI units), and a history of cerebrovascular disease (p < 0.001 for model) [2].
  • The concentration of MCP-1 (median, range of values) was increased in the PF of endometriosis patients (283, 0 to 1,930 pg/mL; conversion factor to SI unit, 0.155) compared with the control group (140, 0 to 435 pg/mL) [3].

High impact information on International System of Units

  • The estrogenic activity measured by RCUB [mean +/- sd, 11.9 +/- 10.9 pmol/liter (SI units, 3.23 +/- 2.96 pg/ml] was significantly lower than estradiol levels measured by RIA [43.7 +/- 44.0 pmol/liter (11.9 +/- 12.0 pg/ml)] in our volunteer subjects (P < 0.00001) [4].
  • RESULTS: The concentration of human cTnI in SRM 2921 is 31.2 (1.4) mg/L (where 1.4 mg/L is the uncertainty at a 95% level of confidence), as certified through a method that provides traceability to the International System of Units (SI) [5].
  • When each test is measured precisely and without bias, the ratio of TIBC (mumol/L) to TRF (g/L) in SI units is close to the theoretically expected value of 25.0 [6].
  • Comparison of midcycle PRL between groups showed differences only between bioactive PRL (34.2 +/- 8.3 versus 19.2 +/- 3.4 ng/mL [conversion factor to SI unit, 1.00]) [7].
  • INTERVENTION(S): Oral dexamethasone (DEX) administration if P level exceeded 0.8 ng/mL (conversion factor to SI unit, 3.180) after pituitary suppression [8].

Biological context of International System of Units

Anatomical context of International System of Units

  • Previous IVF-ET attempts had been uneventful and during the complicated trial, estradiol peak levels and numbers of oocytes retrieved remained below 2,500 pg/mL (conversion factor to SI unit, 3.671) and 10, respectively [10].

Associations of International System of Units with chemical compounds

  • In diabetics, basal LH levels and pulse amplitude decreased significantly during DA infusion (3.1 +/- 1.2 mIU/mL (conversion factor to SI unit, 1.00; mean +/- SD) and 0.9 +/- 0.3 mIU/mL, respectively) compared with placebo (4.5 +/- 1.1 and 1.2 +/- 0.4 mIU/mL, respectively) [11].
  • Peak P in the captopril group was significantly lower than controls (81.8 +/- 27.8 versus 208.5 +/- 23.9 ng/mL [conversion factor to SI unit, 3.180]) [12].
  • RESULTS: Basal T levels decreased to 5.37 +/- 67 ng/mL from 8.68 +/- 93 ng/mL (conversion factor to SI unit, 3.47) immediately after overtraining and basal cortisol levels increased to 215.3 +/- 31 ng/mL from 145.7 +/- 27 ng/mL (conversion factor to SI unit, 2.76) [13].
  • RESULTS: Fasting glucose (115 +/- 5 versus 109 +/- 4 mg/dL; conversion factor to SI units 0.05551) and insulin (1.67 +/- 0.24 versus 1.51 +/- 0.22 ng/mL; conversion factor to SI units 174.5) levels were not significantly different in the control and P treated groups, respectively [14].
  • RESULTS: Compared with thin women, obese subjects had higher levels of androstenediol 60 (95.8 +/- 20.3 versus 130.7 +/- 40.7 ng/dL, respectively [conversion factor to SI units, 0.03443]) and delta androstenediol (17.4 +/- 8.7 versus 37.8 +/- 29.0 ng/dL, respectively [conversion factor to SI units, 0.03443]) [15].

Gene context of International System of Units

  • A proposed reference method for plasminogen activators that enables calculation of enzyme activities in SI units [16].
  • RESULT: Approximately 50% of the PF samples had EGF concentrations of > 0.4 pg/mL (conversion factor to SI unit, 0.17) and 90% had basic FGF concentrations of > 1 pg/mL (conversion factor to SI unit, 0.058) [17].
  • RESULTS: Baseline PRL levels ranged from 3.64 to 19.23 ng/mL (mean 7.17 ng/mL; conversion factor to SI unit, 1.00) [18].
  • RESULT(S): The clinical PR in fresh cycles was 24% for the P < or = 0.9 ng/mL group (group A; conversion factor to SI unit, 3.18) and 34% for the P > 0.9 ng/mL group (group B) [19].
  • SI units of TDF [20].
