Disease relevance of CLEC4C

  • IFN alpha production by both SLE and healthy control PBMCs stimulated by SLE-IIF or HSV-1 was markedly reduced by anti-BDCA-2 mAb (median 81-98% inhibition) [1].
  • Very low percentage of DC2 and high BDCA-1/BDCA-2 ratio in malignant pleural effusion of patients not treated with IFN-alpha suggest intensive Th1 response probably responsible for inflammatory state maintenance and effusion constant development [2].

High impact information on CLEC4C

Biological context of CLEC4C

  • Identification and characterization of the gene for a novel C-type lectin (CLECSF7) that maps near the natural killer gene complex on human chromosome 12 [6].
  • HECL, however, is most closely related to the sole group II C-type lectins reported to map near this region of the genome, the murine Nkcl and Mpcl genes [6].
  • Two other lectins, dectin-2 and BDCA-2, are highly related to DCAR by similarities of their amino acid sequence, molecular structure and chromosomal localization [7].

Anatomical context of CLEC4C

Associations of CLEC4C with chemical compounds

  • We have identified a novel gene encoding a protein designated DLEC (dendritic cell lectin), which is a type II membrane glycoprotein of 213 amino acids and belongs to the human calcium-dependent (C-type) lectin family [12].

Regulatory relationships of CLEC4C

Other interactions of CLEC4C

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of CLEC4C

  • Molecular cloning of BDCA-2 revealed that BDCA-2 is a novel type II C-type lectin, which shows 50.7% sequence identity at the amino acid level to its putative murine ortholog, the murine dendritic cell-associated C-type lectin 2 [3].
  • RT-PCR and Northern blot analyses show that DLEC mRNA is preferentially expressed in monocyte-derived dendritic cells [12].
  • We used quantitative immunohistochemistry with PDC-specific antibodies against BDCA-2 and CD123 to characterize the PDC population before and after imiquimod treatment in these specimens [17].
