Disease relevance of Fatigue

• Two patients developed D-penicillamine side-effects - one patient after nine months (marked anorexia, lassitude) and one other patient after 19 months (thrombocytopenia) [1].
• Twenty-two patients demonstrated mitral valve prolapse (MVP), implicating primary neurologic disturbances as potential factors in the fatigue and lassitude often associated with MVP [2].
• As IL-1 beta and TNF experimentally induce astrogliosis, demyelination, temperature elevation, lassitude, and sleep, and results raise the possibility that these cytokines may contribute to a variety of manifestations in MS and in other disease states [3].
