Disease relevance of NESPAS

• Previous work from our laboratory suggested that the trans-acting defect which allows packaging of cellular mRNA mapped to the provirus but did not map to the nucleocapsid region of the gag gene (D.J. Anderson, P. Lee, K. L. Levine, J. Sang, S. A. Shah, O. O. Yang, P. R. Shank, and M. L. Linial, J. Virol. 66:204-216, 1992) [1].
• Primary central nervous system lymphomas in 72 immunocompetent patients: pathologic findings and clinical correlations. Groupe Ouest Est d'étude des Leucénies et Autres Maladies du Sang (GOELAMS) [2].

High impact information on NESPAS

• It appears, rather, to be caused by a failure in gene expression because one-third of Pk X p hybrids became able to express P antigenicity with a time lag of 3-4 days after cell fusion [Fellous, M., Gerbal, A., Nobillot, G. & Weils, J. (1977) Vox Sang. 32, 262-268] [6].
• The Rhnull cells, originally described by Seidl, Spielmann, and Martin (Vox Sang. 23:182, 1972) were normal in size, cation, and water content, indicating no significant increase in cell volume as occurs in young human red cells [7].
• The Genetics Society Autumn Meeting on the genetics of domestication took place in November 2004 at the Royal Society in London, and was organised by Helen Sang (Roslin Institute, UK) and Jonathan Jones (John Innes Centre, UK) [8].

Associations of NESPAS with chemical compounds

• Patients aged 18-60 years received the Groupe Ouest Est d'Etude des Leucemies Aigues et Maladies du Sang (GOELAMS) 02 protocol: 3 monthly cycles of VCAP (vindesine 3 mg/m2 day 1, doxorubicin 80 mg/m2 day 2, cyclophosphamide 1500 mg/m2 day 2, and prednisone 80 mg/m2 days 1-5) [11].
• Dr Jean Plouët (Centre de Recherche Cardiovasculaire, INSERM U 689/Institut des Vaisseaux et du Sang) was interviewed by Emma Quigley (Commissioning Editor, Expert Opinion) on 20th June 2006 [12].
• The traditional medicine prescribed was Petch Sang Kart and the modern alternative was Proctosedyl [13].

• The 3.0G enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay includes the protein from the NS5 region (Uyttendaele et al., Vox Sang. 66:122-129, 1994) [15].
