Disease relevance of PROL1

  • We stably transfected human A549 lung cancer cells with several short hairpin RNAs for PRL-1 and found decreased invasive activity in the resulting clones compared with control cells [1].
  • These results support the hypothesis that PRL-1 plays an important role in maintaining the malignant phenotype by exploiting Src activation processes, and that PRL-1 could be a promising therapeutic target for cancer metastasis and cell growth [1].
  • We measured serum calcium, phosphate, PTH, 25-hydroxyvitamin D, 1,25-(OH)2D, 24,25-(OH)2D, alkaline phosphatase (sAP), and the urinary hydroxyproline/creatinine ratio (UOH prol/creat) in 19 patients with Paget's disease of bone and 16 age- and sex-matched controls [2].

Biological context of PROL1

  • Prol BE, ramp BE, and TMW also differed significantly with respect to ventilation (22 +/- 7 l.min-1; 26 +/- 6 l/min-1; 29 +/- 7 l.min-1; P < 0.01) and heart rate (100 +/- 15 beats.min-1; 103 +/- 18 beats.min-1; 110 +/- 16 beats.min-1; P < 0.017) [4].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of PROL1

  • As expected, sAP, UOH prol/creat, and sBGP levels were significantly elevated, and there was a tendency to a decrease in serum levels of 24,25-(OH)2D in Pagetic patients with respect to the control group [2].
  • On three consecutive days patients performed cycle ergometry supine, with prolonged steps (prol BE) and right heart catheterization, ramplike cycle ergometry sitting (ramp BE), and ramplike treadmill walking (TMW) [4].
  • From the immunoassays tested, PROL-CTK was the system which was less correlated with the Nb2 bioassay in group 2 (r=0.252; NS) [6].
