Disease relevance of PPARGC1B

  • METHODS: We studied variation in the coding region of human PPARGC1B in Danish whites and related these variations to the prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes in population based samples [1].
  • Logistic regression analyses of the PPARGC1B Ala203Pro variant showed an increased familial breast cancer risk of heterozygous and homozygous variant allele carriers (OR = 1.48, 95% CI 1.15-1.91, P = 0.002) [2].
  • Putative association of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma co-activator 1beta (PPARGC1B) polymorphism with Type 2 diabetes mellitus [3].
  • In the current residential study, we investigated the potential for perc exposure and neurologic effects, using a battery of visual-system function tests, among healthy members of six families living in two apartment buildings in New York City that contained dry-cleaning facilities on the ground floors [4].
  • CONCLUSION: Data suggest that perc-NMES is less painful than trans-NMES in the treatment of shoulder subluxation in hemiplegia [5].

High impact information on PPARGC1B

  • The PGC-1-related protein PERC is a selective coactivator of estrogen receptor alpha [6].
  • We show here that the coactivation function of PERC relies on a bipartite transcriptional activation domain and two LXXLL motifs that interact with the AF2 domain of ERalpha in an estrogen-dependent manner [6].
  • Finally, PERC enhances the ERalpha-mediated response to the partial agonist tamoxifen, while PGC-1 modestly represses it [6].
  • Lipid infusion decreased PPARGC1A, PPARGC1B and PPARA expression to approximately 61, 77 and approximately 52% of basal values respectively, whereas expression of uncoupling protein 3 was upregulated 1.8-fold (all p<0.05) [7].
  • SFAs reduced PPARGC1B expression (p<0.05 for palmitate and stearate, n=5) [8].

Biological context of PPARGC1B

  • We studied PPARGC1A (PGC-1alpha), PPARGC1B (PGC-1beta), NRF1, and a variety of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and nuclear-encoded mitochondrial genes critical for oxidative phosphorylation in soleus muscle biopsies obtained from six healthy men and women before and after 5 weeks of local muscle inactivity [9].
  • In an effort to identify genetic polymorphisms in potential candidate genes for T2DM, genetic associations of PPARGC1B were examined in a Korean T2DM study [3].
  • METHODS: We have sequenced the PPARGC1B, and examined its association with T2DM and diabetic phenotypes in a Korean T2DM study (775 T2DM patients and 316 control subjects) using the TaqMan method [3].
  • These results suggested that chronic, environmental exposure to airborne perc adversely affects neurobehavioral function in healthy individuals [4].
  • The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classified perc as a hazardous air pollutant because of its potential adverse impact on human health [4].

Anatomical context of PPARGC1B

  • Since regulation of the expression of the gene encoding PGC-1alpha (PPARGC1A) by nutrients/metabolites has not been assessed in detail, the aim of this study was to determine whether PPARGC1A (and PPARGC1B) expression is modulated by common plasma fatty acids in human skeletal muscle cells [8].
  • Using stepwise multivariate analysis, the best discriminating combination of features was SI90 and the percentage of Ki-67-positive nuclei in the deep third layer of the epithelium (PERC DL) [10].

Associations of PPARGC1B with chemical compounds

  • Notably, linoleate reversed palmitate's repressive effect on PPARGC1B [8].
  • CONCLUSION: The present study provides, for the first time, information about genetic polymorphisms in PPARGC1B and putative associations of one non-synonymous SNP with the risk of T2DM and serum triglyceride (TG) levels in the Korean population, although this result was not significant after correction for multiple testing [3].
  • Fugitive tetrachloroethylene (PCE, perc) emissions from dry cleaners operating in apartment buildings can contaminate residential indoor air [11].
  • The results are inconsistent with the assumptions of the planning and control model [Behav. Brain Sci. (in press); J. Exp. Psychol. Hum. Perc. Perf. 27 (2001) 560], and the perception and action dissociation model of goal-directed movement [A.D. Milner, M.A. Goodale, The Visual Brain in Action, Oxford University Press, New York, Oxford, 1995] [12].
  • ClO4- reductase from cell-free extracts of the ClO4- -respiring bacterium perc lace was purified 10-fold by ion-exchange and molecular exclusion fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) [13].

Other interactions of PPARGC1B

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of PPARGC1B

  • Healthy workers in the day care investigation were chronically exposed to airborne perc at a mean of 2,150 microg/m(3) for a mean of 4.0 years [4].
  • A potential hazard with TracheoSoft PERC tracheostomy tubes [14].
  • OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of percutaneous intramuscular neuromuscular electric stimulation (perc-NMES) for treating shoulder subluxation and pain in patients with chronic hemiplegia [15].
