Disease relevance of SEMG1

  • Here we have analyzed an intronic T9 repeat of semenogelin I (SEMG1) and report mutation frequencies of 51% (75 of 146) and 62% (8 of 13) in MMR-deficient primary colorectal cancers and cell lines, respectively [1].
  • Our results show that in McArdle's disease the exerted force is less, the surface EMG (SEMG) amplitude steadily increases, and that the power density spectrum (PDS) shifts to lower frequencies, the latter without significant differences when compared with normals [2].
  • High-density SEMG was measured on the biceps brachii at 20% of the maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) in seven patients with GM previously shown to have transient paresis at higher force levels [3].
  • METHODS: During sitting and standing in upright position surface EMG (SEMG) from 15 subjects with fibromyalgia and 10 healthy controls was performed using a 16-channel technique where the electrodes were applied in a well-defined grid pattern (gain 5000, 3 db points at 5 Hz and 700 Hz respectively) [4].
  • Molecular characterization of two porcine group A rotavirus strains (HP113 and HP140), detected from eastern India, revealed a VP7 closely related to those of human G6P[14] strains, VP4 with a borderline P[13] genotype, and VP6 related to bovine and human SGI strains rather than porcine SGI and/or SGII group A rotaviruses [5].

High impact information on SEMG1

  • The putative effect of the SEMG1 mutations was assessed by RNA and protein level analyses, but no differences were detected between colorectal cancer cell lines with different SEMG1 status [1].
  • In contrast, at both SEMG1 and SEMG2 we observed several gorilla haplotypes that contain at least one premature stop codon [6].
  • Chimpanzees have an expanded SEMG1 gene caused by duplications of tandem repeats, each encoding 60 amino acids, resulting in a protein nearly twice as long as that of humans [6].
  • The underlying molecular mechanism is most likely gene conversion, and a phylogenetic analysis suggests that SEMG1 is the most probable donor gene [7].
  • The intermediate grey layer (SGI) of superior colliculus (SC) receives cholinergic innervation from brainstem parabrachial region [8].

Biological context of SEMG1

  • Here we examine the molecular evolution of the semenogelin genes (SEMG1 and SEMG2), which code for the predominant structural proteins in human semen [6].
  • The SEMG abnormalities included disturbed propagation of motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) over the muscle fiber membrane and abnormal motor unit recruitment patterns, pointing to central adaptation mechanisms [3].
  • For graphical display LIGSITE produces VRML representations of the protein-ligand complex and the binding site for display with a VRML viewer such as WebSpace from SGI [9].
  • Depolarization induced by nicotine enhanced the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor-mediated excitatory postsynaptic potential component and lowered the threshold of bursting response in the SGI neurons to stimulation of the superficial layer [10].
  • Next is a study that showed that participants lack awareness of their muscle tension as compared to the actual SEMG levels [11].

Anatomical context of SEMG1

Associations of SEMG1 with chemical compounds

  • The performance on one single CPU is potentially as good as that on an Alpha 21264A workstation or an SGI supercomputer [15].
  • MEASUREMENTS AND RESULTS: The estimated number of nurses needed was defined according to the Swiss Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SGI) grading system: category I = one nurse/patient/shift (= 8 h), category II = one nurse/two patients/shift, category III = one nurse/three patients/shift [16].
  • These studies used matched high-quality crystals (0.94 A diffraction resolution) of D-xylose isomerase derived from the commercial material Gensweet SGI [17].
  • SEMG power spectrum changes during a sustained 50% Maximum Voluntary Isometric Torque do not depend upon the prior knowledge of the exercise duration [18].
  • Application of acetylcholine (ACh) induced fast inward currents mediated by nicotinic ACh receptors in the SGI neurons [10].

Other interactions of SEMG1

  • It exhibited a high degree of homology with human semenogelin-I, but in place of the Lys-Gln-Glu-Pro sequence that might give rise to pGlu-Glu-Pro amide, marmoset semenogelin possessed the sequence Ser-Gln-Asp-Gln which cannot serve as a precursor for a TRH-like peptide [19].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of SEMG1

  • To clarify the action of cholinergic inputs to local circuits in the SGI, we investigated the effect of cholinergic agonists and antagonists on a large number of randomly sampled neurons in Wistar rat SGI (n = 246) using whole-cell patch clamp technique in slices of the rat SC [8].
  • Therefore, SEMG can be used to provide an objective measure of discomfort in passengers subjected to lateral accelerations in a car seat [20].
  • In this paper, parametric modeling of surface electromyography (EMG) algorithms that facilitates automatic SEMG feature extraction and artificial neural networks (ANN) are combined for providing an integrated system for the automatic analysis and diagnosis of myopathic disorders [21].
  • Thus, the SEMG may indicate periods of inadequate analgesia, not only post-operatively (Study 4) but also intra-operatively (Study 1), since we found the frontalis to be relatively insensitive to a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker (Study 2) [22].
  • The SEMG analysis for the lower limb prosthesis using wavelet transformation [23].
