  • In the first study assessing responsiveness of winter depression to a standard pharmacologic treatment for depression, the authors found that 14 patients meeting National Institute of Mental Health criteria for winter depression responded to treatment with tranylcypromine [15].
  • In September 1994, the National Institute of Mental Health convened a group of scientists to discuss the clinical effects of rapid clozapine discontinuation, especially in light of the introduction of risperidone for the treatment of schizophrenia [16].
  • RESULTS: A majority of patients (85%) treated with clonidine for ADHD-associated sleep disturbances were considered to be much to very much improved by the National Institute of Mental Health global assessment of improvement (sleep) [17].
  • These two studies show that fluvoxamine is associated with significant improvement on the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), the National Institute of Mental Health Obsessive Compulsive Scale (NIMH-OC) and the Global Improvement item of the Clinical Global Impression (CGImp) Scale, compared with placebo [18].
  • In three separate studies, conducted collaboratively between the National Institute of Mental Health and the University of California at San Diego, physostigmine and arecoline associated increases in plasma concentrations of beta-endorphin immunoreactivity were highly correlated with increases in plasma prolactin concentrations [19].
