Disease relevance of RCN1

  • Volepox virus (VPX) from skin lesions on a vole and a piñon mouse caught in California and raccoon poxvirus (RCN) from raccoons trapped in Maryland were examined to begin elucidating their relationship to other orthopoxviruses, most of which are not known to be indigenous to the Americas [1].
  • A species-specific probe was also designed to detect members of the Ruminococcus callidus species (Rcal 733) [2].
  • Cognate DNAs of the ATI 160-kDa protein and 38-kDa serine protease inhibitor homologue of cowpox virus (CPV) and the 14-kDa fusion protein of vaccinia virus (VAC) were present within the right end of VPX and RCN DNA, matching their location in CPV and VAC [1].
  • Since publishing its guidelines on the management of venous leg ulcers last year, the RCN has worked steadily to implement and audit both the guidelines, and their impact [3].
  • In 1991 an RCN survey found back injury to be an ongoing problem, with a lack of training, assessment or proper care [4].

Psychiatry related information on RCN1

High impact information on RCN1

  • The conserved RCN family of proteins can bind and directly regulate calcineurin, a Ca(2+)-activated protein phosphatase involved in immunity, heart growth, muscle development, learning, and other processes [8].
  • Through the phosphorylation of RCNs, GSK-3 kinases can potentially contribute to a positive feedback loop involving calcineurin-dependent up-regulation of RCN expression [8].
  • Comparative analysis of three unrelated genes with quite different roles, WT1, RCN1, and PAX6, has revealed differences in their structural evolution [9].
  • The SJL/J mouse strain has a high spontaneous incidence of a B-cell neoplasm, reticulum cell neoplasm type B (RCN B) [10].
  • The analyses of the amino acid sequence showed that these polypeptides were reticulocalbin (RCN) and glutathione-S-transferase-pi (GST-pi) [11].

Biological context of RCN1

Anatomical context of RCN1

  • RCN1/21 causes aggregation of unstimulated neutrophils, but it is not known whether this is due to cellular activation or agglutination [15].
  • VPX and RCN produced pinpoint, nonhemorrhagic pocks on chick embryo chorioallantoic membranes [1].
  • Immunohistochemical examination demonstrated a broad distribution of RCN in various organs of fetuses and adults, predominantly in the endocrine and exocrine organs [12].
  • Reticulocalbin (RCN) is one member of the Ca(2+)-binding proteins in the secretory pathway and is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum [12].
  • Plasma cells were the only RCN-positive cells among hematopoietic and lymphoid cells [12].

Associations of RCN1 with chemical compounds

  • In the cases of aliphatic isocyanides (RCN), a novel diselenide-assisted bisthiolation of RNC with diaryl disulfides (Ar'SSAr') proceeds successfully to give the corresponding bisthiolation products (Ar'S-C(=NR)-SAr'), although the same photoirradiated reaction of RNC with diaryl disulfides does not occur in the absence of diselenide [16].
  • Compound 3 has been derivatized by reaction with RNC ligands in the presence of TlPF(6) to give unsymmetrical complexes of the type [Re(2)Cl(3)(mu-dppm)(2)(mu:eta(2),eta(2)-HCCH)(eta(2)-HCCH)(CNR)]PF(6) (R = Xyl (5), Mes (6), t-Bu (7)), in which the RCN ligand has displaced the chloride ligand cis to the eta(2)-HCCH ligand [17].
  • The reaction of AlH(3).NMe(3) with RCN proceeds with the evolution of trimethylamine and affords (HAINCH(2)R)(6) (R = Ph (1), p-MeC(6)H(4) (2), p-CF(3)C(6)H(4) (3)) [18].
  • The reaction went to another direction with NiX(2).2H(2)O, i.e., the reaction between neat RCN (R = Me, Et, n-Pr, i-Pr, n-Bu, CH(2)Cl, CH(2)C(6)H(4)OMe-p) and NiCl(2).2H(2)O/2-propanone oxime (other ketoximes can also be used) gave the (imidoylamidine)Ni(II) complexes [Ni[N(H)[double bond]C(R)NHC(R)[double bond]NH](2)](2+) (1(2+)-7(2+)) [19].
  • Spectroscopic studies (EPR and UV-vis), conducted in dichloromethane solutions in the presence of various coordinating cosolvents (DMF, EtOH, or RCN) or with acetamide, revealed the coexistence of a mononuclear hydroxo species [20].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of RCN1

  • The monoclonal antibodies, L13/64 and RCN1/21, raised against rabbit leucocytes, have been shown, by sequential immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting, to react with the rabbit CD18 molecule [15].
  • RCN-positive cases showed a statistically significant better disease-free survival only in the cases receiving postoperative platinum-based adjuvant chemotherapy after curative resection (p = 0.007) [11].
  • AIM: The RCN Clinical Leadership Development Programme was set up in 1995 and sought to identify how clinical nurses in recognised leadership positions could improve the quality of patient care [21].
  • RCN critical care nursing forum [22].
  • With this end in view, this paper describes the education programme being developed by the RCN, leading to the award of Gerontological Nurse Specialist--a person able to demonstrate knowledge of rehabilitation, clinical assessment, health care assessment and a holistic knowledge of the ageing process [23].
