  • Recent findings indicate that Gcd10p and Gcd14p reside in a nuclear complex required for the presence of 1-methyladenosine in tRNAs [23].
  • One of the subunits of the complex (T. brucei MT40 [TbMT40]) is a putative methyltransferase and a homolog of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Gcd14, which is essential for 1-methyladenosine modification in tRNAs [24].
  • Since the nucleoside phosphorylases present in normal individuals do not act on 1-methyladenosine, this suggests that a phosphorylase with unusual properties is present in this adenosine deaminase-deficient subject [25].
