Disease relevance of Humidity

High impact information on Humidity

  • All three associations are more marked in the elderly and all three operate at all temperatures and humidities met with in Britain. Control of the microenvironment of the elderly is necessary throughout the temperature range [6].
  • A similar biphasic pigmentation response was obtained when polyvinyl alcohol film containing lysine was treated with dihydroxyacetone and incubated at various relative humidities, indicating that the structure of the stratum corneum was not a major factor [7].
  • Force curves at different humidities of these modified cantilevers were taken on freshly cleaved mica (hydrophilic surface) and on a monolayer of dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamine transferred onto mica (hydrophobic surface) to characterize the behavior of the cantilevers on hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces [8].
  • X-ray diffraction studies on oriented multilayers of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (POPE) in the lamellar gel (L beta) and inverted hexagonal (HII) phases at various temperatures (5-50 degrees C) and relative humidities (0-100%) are reported [9].
  • In these DNAs at 75% RH, the IR bands of adenosine have the same frequencies as those found in poly(dA-dT) at 75% RH where the local furanose conformation is C3' endo/anti, but the thymidine frequencies do not resemble those of poly(dA-dT) at 75% RH but rather those of poly(dA-dT) at high humidities [10].

Biological context of Humidity

  • The vapor mode of operation over a range of relative humidities had comparatively small effects on kinetic constants for hydrolysis of ethyl acetate, which were also similar to those in phosphate buffer [11].
  • The adsorption equilibrium and kinetics of O2/H2O on Zn have been measured at different temperatures and relative humidities using a Cahn 1000 vacuum recording electrobalance [12].
  • A flow-past nose-only inhalation system was used for the co-exposure of mice to carbon black aerosols (CBA) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) at varying relative humidities (RH) [13].

Associations of Humidity with chemical compounds

  • Consequently, reduction of dust mite numbers and allergen levels cannot be guaranteed by the controlling of room humidities [14].
  • The surface disinfectant effect of glutaraldehyde in the gas-aerosol phase was investigated at different relative humidities and temperatures [15].
  • Separate powdered mixtures of aspirin USP with gluconolactone, anhydrous lactose, spray-dried lactose, mannitol, and sorbitol were stored at various humidities and temperatures for specified periods and tested for the integrity of aspirin [16].
  • The accuracy of four blood glucose meters (Accutrend, ExacTech Companion, Medisense Companion 2, and Glucometer III) was tested at temperatures ranging from 4 to 44 degrees C (control solutions) and 8 degrees C, 24 degrees C, and 36 degrees C (venous blood) and at humidities of 60% and 80% [17].
  • For laboratory evaluations, known concentrations of ethylene oxide around the threshold limit values (TLV)/time-weighted average and specific relative humidities (RHs) were generated by syringe pumps in a dynamic generation system [18].

Gene context of Humidity

  • Complexes between DNA and histones H2B and H3 were studies by means of infrared linear dichroism in a wide range of histone to DNA ratios and of different relative humidities [19].
  • Gas-exchange analysis of chloroplastic fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase antisense potatoes at different air humidities and at elevated CO(2) [20].
  • However, catalase did not have any effects on enumeration at high relative humidities (80 to 90%) [21].
  • Relative humidities of 50 and 90% did not significantly alter (P greater than 0.05) serum PRL or GH [22].
  • At elevated temperatures and humidities, radical stability decreased--the decay rate was estimated at approximately 3x10(-8) mol K(-1) [23].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of Humidity

  • After lyophilization, the pure protein and sucrose formulations were equilibrated at different relative humidities giving residual moistures from less than 1% to 5% for sucrose systems and up to 17% for pure protein systems [24].
  • The heat associated with crystallization was measured in an isothermal microcalorimeter at 25 degrees C at various relative humidities (RH) (50%-100%) and, in the presence of the vapour from a mixed solvent of ethanol and water (ethanol conc. 10%-100%) [25].
  • Equilibration at relative humidities significantly higher than 81% causes glucose to dissolve in its own water of hydration, resulting in samples that may be too thick to be suitable for electron microscopy [26].
