Gene context of Sphincter of Oddi

  • CCK and caerulein (as previously found), and also bombesin, OP-CCK and gastrin increased the spikes activity of the sphincter of Oddi [25].
  • NPY at the 500 ng/kg/min dose significantly increased sphincter of Oddi phasic wave frequency, amplitude, and motility index (MI = F X A) [26].
  • The "abnormal" response to cholecystokinin found in group C indicates a motor dysfunction of the sphincter of Oddi, which may have been responsible for, or at least contributed to, the formation of recurrent bile duct stones in this group [27].
  • All of five patients with early cancer are still alive, whereas five with semi-advanced cancer invading the sphincter of Oddi but not the pancreatic parenchyma, and two with a PCNA-positive rate of over 40% died of recurrent cancer [28].
  • Glucagon at high doses of 500 and 1000 ng/kg . min depressed sphincter of Oddi and gastrointestinal spike burst activity, whereas lower doses of glucagon and secretin (3-12 CU/kg . h) had no effect [23].
