Disease relevance of Procaine penicillin G

  • One hundred and seven men with culture-proved gonococcal urethritis were given a single dose of either procaine penicillin G, 4.8 million U, or cefoxitin, 2 g, intramuscularly [1].
  • Rabbits with group G streptococcal aortic endocarditis received no therapy (controls); repeated doses of procaine penicillin G, 300 mg/kg (body weight) per day, administered intramuscularly; or LY146032, a new peptolide antibiotic, 20 mg/kg per day, administered intravenously [2].
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea of 122 mucosal sites in 51 women was successfully treated with either a single intramuscular dose of 250 mg of ceftriaxone (23 patients) or two intramuscular doses of 4.8 X 10(6) U of aqueous procaine penicillin G (28 patients) [3].
  • Ninety-seven patients with 118 sites infected with Neisseria gonorrhoeae were treated with a single dose of either procaine penicillin G (4.8 x 10(6) U) or cefotoxime (1.0 g) intramuscularly [4].
  • The condylomata lata responded well to treatment of the syphilis with procaine penicillin G [5].
