Disease relevance of Endoscopes

High impact information on Endoscopes

Chemical compound and disease context of Endoscopes

  • The recent development of a pediatric side-viewing endoscope (PJF Endoscope; Olympus Corporation of America) provided an opportunity to investigate the usefulness of endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERC) for precise visualization of the extrahepatic biliary passages in infants with persistent cryptogenic cholestasis [11].
  • METHODS: We randomized 60 patients with a 6-18 months history of sciatica to either targeted epidural local anaesthetic and steroid placement with a spinal endoscope or caudal epidural local anaesthetic and steroid treatment [12].
  • RESULTS: All 13 patients with luminal stenosis had at least a T3 (n = 12) or T4 (n = 1) lesion up to the level of maximum advancement of the echo endoscope [13].
  • MIVAP was performed with a 1.5 cm suprasternal incision; the operation was then done through this incision with a 30 degree 5 mm endoscope and microsurgical instruments with brief CO2 insufflation for adenoma identification [14].
  • CONCLUSION: Intraoperative fluorescein angiography using an endoscope disclosed unusual findings in the extreme peripheral retina and pars plana of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy [15].

Biological context of Endoscopes

Anatomical context of Endoscopes

  • METHODS: Consecutive patients detected with columnar mucosa in the distal oesophagus were studied using an Olympus magnification endoscope (GIF-Q16OZ, 115x) [18].
  • Gastric mucosal damage was induced by spraying 80% ethanol on to the gastric mucosa through the biopsy channel of the endoscope [19].
  • Multipolar electrode catheters and a 3.6 mm diameter fibreoptic endoscope with a latex balloon covering the distal tip were inserted into the right atrium [20].
  • To visualize the peri- and epicardium, for video- and photo documentation, two sorts of 8F endoscope were used, either a flexible fibreglass version or a rigid 110 degree one--both made by Storz [21].
  • The 2.5 mm endoscope was also passed from the femoral artery distally into the hind limb and still did not allow adequate visualization of the vessel wall because of persistent luminal blood [22].

Associations of Endoscopes with chemical compounds

  • The endoscope sheath was shown to have screening properties, with a transmission factor of about 30% for the Olympus JFB-1 and about 11% for the JFB-2 and JFB-3 instruments [23].
  • After the application of 0.2% methylene blue, examination using a magnifying endoscope (Olympus CF-HM) revealed characteristic 'worm-eaten' appearances in 75% of the patients regardless of the activity of their disease [24].
  • Appropriate methods for sterilizing endoscopes are reviewed, including sterilization with 2.5 per cent glutaraldehyde solution and ethylene oxide gas [25].
  • A washing tube was passed via the endoscope and 0.1 N hydrochloric acid as well as normal saline were sequentially administered on to the ulcer crater, the sequence of infusion being randomised and double blind [26].
  • A limited dilatation was performed initially if a small calibre endoscope was unable to pass through the stricture [27].

Gene context of Endoscopes

  • CONCLUSION(S): Chemical sterilization of endoscopes can cause clinical manifestations in people with G6PD deficiency, a common enzyme abnormality [28].
  • MATERIALS AND METHODS: ICG-sulfo-OSu-labeled mouse anti-human carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) antibody and an infrared fluorescence endoscope were used in this study [29].
  • CONCLUSIONS: An anti-CEA antibody with affinity for cancerous lesions and labeled with ICG-sulfo-OSu can therefore be imaged using this infrared fluorescence endoscope [29].
  • After a baseline 15-min collection and administration of IV synthetic secretin, fluid was continuously collected in 15-min aliquots for an hour. ePFT protocol: Endoscopy was performed using a 6-mm endoscope [30].
  • RESULTS: A simple color filter sheet, suitable for use with endoscopes with removable CCD-video head, appeared to be very effective in improving video endoscopic monitoring during treatment [31].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of Endoscopes

  • We have developed an ultrathin endoscope for repeated endoscopy in unsedated subjects and used it with assessment of bleeding rates to investigate aspirin-induced gastric mucosal injury and its prevention by famotidine [8].
  • Sclerotherapy was carried out with an intravariceal injection of 5% ethanolamine oleate through a fiberoptic endoscope [32].
  • An array of methods was employed, including propofol sedation (n = 2), pediatric colonoscope (n = 8), an external straightener (n = 9), external straightener with pediatric colonoscope (n = 2), upper endoscope (n = 8), guidewire exchange (n = 3), and enteroscope with a colon straightener (n = 1) or an enteroscope straightener (n = 1) [33].
  • The effectiveness and versatility of the holmium laser combined with small rigid or flexible endoscopes make it our modality of choice for ureteroscopic lithotripsy [34].
  • METHODS: Questionnaires completed 1 day and 3 months after sigmoidoscopy were reviewed for 388 patients, and glutaraldehyde levels in the recycled rinse water of the endoscope washing machine were measured [35].
