• This is in contrast to other alkane-based organogels, in which gelating efficiency increased with the length of the alkane chain (see Abdallah, D. J.; Weiss, R. G. Adv. Mater. 2000, 12, 1237) [23].
• METHODS: The study was a retrospective chart review of 190 consecutive patients over a 3-year period from November 1998 to February 2002 of all women referred to the Maternal Fetal Medicine unit, Mater Mothers Hospital, for fetal echocardiography [24].

• We showed previously that these surfaces, when placed in contact with plasma, adsorb only plasminogen and virtually no other proteins (McClung et al., J. Biomed. Mater. Res. 49 (2000) 409) [27].
• SETTING: Mater Private Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. METHODS: Corneal topography was used to analyze centration in two groups of patients with myopia of more than 6.0 diopters: 18 had PRK and 18, LASIK [28].

• METHODS: A questionnaire based survey of the parents/caregivers of children presenting to the Mater Children's Hospital Emergency Department with poisoning from March to October 2001 [30].
• METHODS: The number of neonatal coagulation profiles (i.e. prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time) were identified from the pathology databases at the Royal Women's Hospital and at the Mater Mother's Hospital. Each specimen that clotted and the number of tests that were repeated were identified and counted [31].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of NLRP5

• It was revealed recently by atomic force microscopy that an exponential force-extension relationship holds both for capture silk mesostructures and for intact capture silk fibers [N. Becker et al., Nat. Mater. 2, 278 (2003)]] [32].
• METHODS: Data were taken from the Mater University Study of Pregnancy, a large birth cohort study of mothers and children enrolled in Brisbane, Australia, beginning in 1981 [33].
• SETTING: Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. METHODS: This prospective study comprised 100 consecutive cases of phacoemulsification performed by 8 trainee surgeons over an 11-month period [34].
