Associations of Mastectomy with chemical compounds

  • PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to determine locoregional recurrence (LRR) patterns after mastectomy and doxorubicin-based chemotherapy to define subgroups of patients who might benefit from adjuvant irradiation [28].
  • It can be calculated that the finding of supranormal urinary testosterone shortly after mastectomy represents virtually a 100% risk of recurrence, in contrast to a recurrence rate of about 38% in women with normal testosterone excretion [17].
  • The authors performed a randomized, prospective study on the effect of DMSO on skin flap viability in patients undergoing mastectomy and inguinal lymphadenectomy [29].
  • Sections from mastectomy specimens of 29 female-to-male transsexuals who had prolonged androgen administration prior to surgery were examined using routine light microscopy and immunohistochemical techniques [30].
  • Of the 17 patients who would have required a mastectomy at initiation of treatment, 15 were suitable for breast conservation after anastrozole treatment [31].

Gene context of Mastectomy

  • The purpose of our study was to review the evidence for the efficacy of surveillance for early detection, bilateral prophylactic mastectomy, prophylactic oophorectomy and chemoprevention in preventing breast cancer and improving survival of BRCA1 or BRCA2 carriers [32].
  • IHC for ER-beta was also performed on sections of BrCA from 118 women who were treated with mastectomy and AHTT [33].
  • In multivariate analysis in the 74 metastatic cases VEGF did not show any significance in relation to disease-free interval and overall survival from the time of mastectomy and from the time of relapse, whereas N and PgR did (p ranging from 0.018 to 0.001) [34].
  • P-glycoprotein expression in the rescue mastectomy specimen has finally been identified as a significant predictor of patient survival [35].
  • By immunoblot, EGF receptors were consistently more abundant in tumor tissue than in adjacent nontumor tissue from the same mastectomy specimen (n = 7) [36].
