Disease relevance of Curettage

High impact information on Curettage

  • The procedure was performed with the idea that an element of faulty hematopoietic microenvironment existed and that regeneration of normal marrow might occur in areas distant from the site of curettage [6].
  • EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Two hundred twenty-six postmenopausal women who had received adjuvant tamoxifen 20 mg/d (> or =12 months, < or =48 months) and developed abnormal vaginal bleeding and/or an asymptomatic endometrial thickness >10 mm [measured by transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS)] were subjected to hysteroscopy and dilation and curettage (D&C) [7].
  • The present study is the first dealing with the demonstration of estrogen receptors (ER) in up to 8-year-old paraffin blocks of endometrial curettage samples routinely fixed in 10% formalin [8].
  • One hundred and thirty-seven consecutive acute superficial abscesses were randomly allocated to incision, curettage and primary suture without parenteral antibiotics (64 cases) or to conventional treatment with incision, drainage and dressings (73 cases) [9].
  • The majority of women whose endometria demonstrated metaplastic transformation were postmenopausal, and most had received some form of oral estrogen replacement therapy within 3 months of the time of curettage or endometrial biopsy [10].

Gene context of Curettage

  • RESULTS: The four groups of complete and incomplete diagnosed hydatiform moles, spontaneous abortions and retention curettage were matched in pairs and evaluated according to the PCNA index [30].
  • Estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) were determined on curettages from women with endometrial adenocarcinoma [31].
  • For PR determination on curettage material the DCC assay seems more accurate than EIA [31].
  • The most important single pretreatment factor combined with the presence of residual carcinoma was myometrial fragments with infiltrating carcinoma in the curettage material (MICC) [32].
  • In this report, a vascularized pedicle bone graft was used to treat ANFH, particularly those cases identified as Stage II on the system established by the Japanese Investigation Committee. Surgery involved curettage of necrotic bone, implantation of spongy bone, and application of a vascularized pedicle bone graft [33].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of Curettage

  • Thus far, PDT has failed to become established as a routine treatment for small premalignant and malignant skin lesions as it has not proved superior to simple cheaper conventional therapies such as cryotherapy, curettage and cautery, topical chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil, or surgery [34].
  • Eutectic lidocaine/prilocaine 5% cream and patch may provide satisfactory analgesia for excisional biopsy or curettage with electrosurgery of cutaneous lesions. A randomized, controlled, parallel group study [35].
  • RESULTS: Cesarean delivery was associated with a 13-fold increased risk of emergent hysterectomy when we controlled for previous cesarean delivery, dilation and curettage or abortion before the index pregnancy, use of prostaglandin, and use of pitocin (OR 12.9; 95% CI 5.2, 32.3) [36].
  • METHODS: Twelve patients with severe preeclampsia undergoing an indicated abdominal delivery had endothelin-1 levels measured from plasma specimens drawn from right and left uterine and antecubital veins before delivery and after placenta removal with uterine curettage [37].
  • Major complications occurred in 5% of those undergoing curettage procedures, 41% of women undergoing prostaglandin amnioinfusion, and 17% of those who had hysterotomy as a method of abortion [38].
