Chemical compound and disease context of Hyperthermia, Induced

  • METHODS: In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, 10 subjects with rhinitis were treated for 30 minutes with local hyperthermia or placebo, which was followed 30 minutes later by nasal allergen challenge [12].
  • PURPOSE: This is the first study to evaluate the tolerability and activity of liposomal doxorubicin (Caelyx; Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals) < or =60 mg/km(2) in patients with locally recurrent breast cancer, when administered in conjunction with reirradiation and local hyperthermia treatment [5].
  • BACKGROUND: Prior treatment with local hyperthermia has been shown to prevent mast cell degranulation and leucocyte histamine release, and to reduce mortality and cellular infiltrates in a model of acute lung injury [13].
  • Tumor growth delay (TGD) demonstrated that when the drugs were tested with radiation (3 Gy daily X 5) plus (43 degrees X 30 min) local hyperthermia, cisplatin/hyperthermia/radiation (TGD approximately 25 days) was significantly more effective than etoposide/hyperthermia/radiation (TGD approximately 14 days) [14].
  • In vivo, treatment of the FSaIIC tumor with misonidazole (1 g/kg) and/or local hyperthermia (43 degrees C for 30 min to the tumor-bearing limb) in conjunction with radiation (10, 20, or 30 Gy) yielded a radiation dose modifying factor for misonidazole of 1.32, for hyperthermia of 1.38, and for the combination of 2.06 (probably additive) [15].
