Disease relevance of EMB

• All available primary tumor histological slides from 93 CSI NSGCT patients were analyzed for vascular invasion (VI), lymphatic invasion (LI), tunical invasion (TI) and quantitative determination of percentage of the primary tumor composed of embryonal carcinoma (%EMB), yolk sac carcinoma (%YS), teratoma (%TER) and seminoma (%SEM) [1].
• Selective EMB medium favored the growth of a larger portion of airborne gram-negative bacteria than LES Endo or MacConkey medium and was a good predictor of the endotoxin levels determined with a chromogenic Limulus assay of the air of wastewater treatment plants [2].

• We conducted a study to compare the efficacy and safety of intermittent ethambutol (E, EMB) with two RMP-containing regimens to treat pulmonary TB in HIV-infected patients [22].

• The most exciting concept to emerge from the use of EMB is the role of myocarditis in the development of dilated cardiomyopathy [25].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of EMB

• The personal experience of one of the authors (EMB) with 774 gastrostomies during a 15-year period using this technique confirms these conclusions [26].
• METHODS: We sampled endomyocardial biopsies at 30 minutes (EMB 0) and at 1 week (EMB 1) after transplantation from 20 cardiac allograft recipients [8].
• The in-hospital mortality rate was 21% (31% EMB, 12% IST), and morbidity was significant and included mesenteric ischemia (6%), bleeding complications (9%), subsequent amputation (12%), renal failure (15%), recurrent embolization or thrombosis (21%), and cardiac complications (42%) [27].
