Disease relevance of Cataract Extraction

• OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of ketorolac tromethamine 0.5% ophthalmic solution, prednisolone acetate 1.0% ophthalmic solution, and ketorolac and prednisolone combination therapy in the treatment of acute, visually significant, cystoid macular edema (CME) occurring after cataract extraction surgery [1].
• A positive association of cataract extraction and treatment of systemic hypertension with the diuretic furosemide was also found (OR = 1.95, 95% CI = 1.02-3.74) [2].
• Significant cataract progression was defined as either cataract extraction in the surgical eye or a greater than a 0.9 LOCS III unit difference in lens opacity between the surgical and nonsurgical eye [3].
