  • Subjective and spirometric indexes of the severity of the asthma were similar on entry into the study in all patients, but only 9 of 48 patients (19 percent) treated with methylprednisolone required hospital admission, as compared with 23 of 49 patients (47 percent) in the control group (P less than 0.003) [36].
  • The patients were randomly assigned in double-blind fashion to receive an intravenous infusion of either saline placebo or high-dose methylprednisolone (15 mg per kilogram of body weight, to a maximum of 1000 mg) on their admission to the hospital and again 24 hours later [37].
  • A controlled trial of methylprednisolone in the emergency treatment of acute asthma [36].
  • At the six-month evaluation, the patients treated with methylprednisolone reported more improvement, less pain on the visual-analogue scale, and less physical disability [38].
  • Using intravital fluorescence microscopy, we observed PMN aggregation and embolization in the mesenteric vessels of rats given intra-arterial infusions of ZAP; this was also prevented by pretreatment with 30 mg/kg MP [39].
