Biological context of Mice, Inbred C57BL

  • In C57BL mice milk-borne infection with B-tropic murine leukemia virus (V+ denoting positive for milk-transmitted B-tropic virus and V- denoting negative for milk-transmitted B-tropic virus) was accompanied by an antibody response against viral envelope antigens (VEA) [17].
  • We also isolated the tk gene from a mouse C57BL/10J cosmid library [18].
  • Modified lipoprotein lipase activities, rates of lipogenesis, and lipolysis as factors leading to lipid depletion in C57BL mice bearing the preputial gland tumor, ESR-586 [19].
  • The present study shows that the tumor promotor 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA) but not the initiator urethane depletes Ia-positive LC from BALB/c murine ear epidermis, and beta-glucuronidase-positive LC from C57BL mouse tail skin [20].
  • Although C57BL mice were less susceptible to experimental UTI than CBA/J mice, wild-type and p47(phox-/-) C57BL mice were similarly susceptible, and the oxyR mutant of Ec1a was similarly attenuated in C57BL mice, regardless of the p47(phox) genotype, as in CBA/J mice [21].

Associations of Mice, Inbred C57BL with chemical compounds

  • Enzyme preparations from rats pretreated with P-448-dependent aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase inducers [3-methylcholanthrene (MCA) and beta-naphthoflavone] and MCA-treated "responsive" C57BL mice also metabolized quinoline to a mutagen, but phenobarbital and pregnenolone-16alpha-carbonitrile pretreatment did not yield active preparations [27].
  • The migration of tritiated thymidine ([3H]dThd)-labeled cells toward the epithelial surface was recorded at various intervals (from 1 to 240 hr) in the normal and atypical cervical epithelial of 127 C57BL mice [28].
  • Tumor cells incubated with levan showed a pronounced decrease in oncogenic properties when inoculated sc in the syngeneic hosts (C57BL mice), although the viability of cells as determined by the trypan blue exclusion test was not diminished [29].
  • Because these temporal domains are not different between C3H and C57BL mice, the sensitivity windows are set independently of the rhythmic melatonin signal [30].
  • Following i.p. injection of dimethylnitrosamine into male C57BL mice, synthesis of liver nuclear heterogeneous RNA was inhibited significantly, reaching approximately 20% of control within 2 hr of a dose of 40 mg/kg [31].

Gene context of Mice, Inbred C57BL

  • Thus, both IL-10 and IL-4 adversely affect the ability of C57BL mice to resist infection with C. immitis, but IL-10 has a larger effect and is the cytokine that is consistently associated with susceptibility in all strains of inbred mice [32].
  • Male C57BL mice were injected ip with 100 microl saline and 2 or 4 microg/g BW mouse leptin in saline vehicle, and 4 h later they were subjected to 2 h of restraint stress by taping the hind limbs together or no stress [33].
  • Striatal DA terminal density as judged by specific [3H]mazindol binding was not altered while the levels of TH mRNA were elevated in the SN of hph-1 mice compared to control (C57BL) mice [34].
  • By using the yeast two-hybrid system with the N-terminal half of AHR as a probe, which contains the bHLH and PAS regions, to screen cDNA libraries prepared from human lymphocytes and C57BL mouse liver for clones encoding proteins capable of binding to these regions, we isolated a partial ARNT cDNA clone [35].
  • Acute restraint stress also resulted in increased dura mast cell activation in C57BL mice, but not in NK-1R-/- mice [36].
